Who’s Your Reason?

Every 21 Seconds, Someone Gives Us a Reason to Keep Moving.

Every 21 seconds, someone in the U.S. is diagnosed with diabetes — a sobering reminder of the growing epidemic. This powerful message is at the heart of the American Diabetes Association’s (ADA) new campaign, spotlighted during America’s Walk for Diabetes events nationwide.

At these walks, every 21 seconds, a white and red bandana is handed to participants as the sound of a horn or drum marks yet another new case. By the end of each event, the sea of bandanas stands as a striking visual symbol of the profound impact diabetes has on American lives.

About the Event

America’s Walk for Diabetes is the ADA’s flagship fundraising walk, aimed at supporting research, education, and advocacy efforts. Participants — families, friends, and co-workers — unite for walks of up to six miles, demonstrating their shared commitment to the fight against diabetes.

Currently, nearly 21 million Americans — adults and children — live with diabetes. An additional 41 million are at risk. The ADA works tirelessly to prevent and cure the disease while improving the quality of life for those affected.

The Urgent Reality

  • Diabetes is the fifth-leading cause of disease-related death in the U.S.

  • If current trends continue, 1 in 3 Americans, and 1 in 2 minorities born in the year 2000, will develop diabetes in their lifetime.

  • So far, the ADA has raised and contributed over $300 million toward diabetes research.

United by Sponsors

The national presenting sponsor of the event is Equal Sweetener, joined by supporting sponsors including Cary’s Sugar Free Syrup, Diet Rite, and Kmart Pharmacy. These organizations share the ADA’s dedication to increasing awareness and offering practical solutions for managing diabetes.
